Q&A
with Jack Lloyd (Director, Dritter von links)

  1. How did you get the idea to pick Wynfrid House and St Bonifatius as a topic for your film?

When I arrived in London for school, I had nowhere to live. I moved between expensive hotels and AirBnBs until I found Wynfrid House. Anthony offered me a room to stay in while I looked for a flat. I stayed there for one month and developed genuine friendships with Anthony and Andreas. I was struck by the generosity and hospitality of the staff and community. In a massive city, Wynfrid House felt like a safe haven for community, trust, and safety. When it came time to make a documentary, I wanted to share the beauty I had experienced at Wynfrid House.

  2. Why do you think it might be of interest to others to know about us?

I think Wynfrid House offers something that is hard to find in our modern world; community and trust. A place like this isn’t often explored on film, so I believe those who have had the chance to see the documentary are struck by the deep and authentic sense of community that is created by people who dedicate their lives to helping others.

  3. What impressed or shocked you most?

My crew and I lived in Wynfrid House for a week while we shot the film. Initially, we were self-conscious as we were coming in with a lot of intrusive equipment. As the week progressed we were amazed at how quickly we felt at home. Everyone at Wynfrid house invited us in with open arms. When it was time to leave, it wasn’t easy for any of us.

  4. How did you decide which scenes to include in a 10-minute film (out of so many hours of material)?

The school’s rules said the film could be no longer than eleven minutes. Having filmed many hours, we had to make a lot of sacrifices. My editor, Jing, and I decided to include only what related to our interest in hospitality and community. It was painful to exclude many scenes, but perhaps there will be an extended cut someday soon…

  5. What is your next project going to be?

We are aiming to shoot our next project after the current term ends in December. I can’t say much, but it’s a short noir film set during the Blitz in London in WWII. Keep your eyes peeled!
