Dear Fr Andreas
I write to you and the Catholic community in the German Church to express my deep sadness on hearing of the tragic events that unfolded at the Christmas market in Magdeburg on 20 December 2024.
I pray that the Lord will grant comfort to the bereaved, healing to the injured, and peace to all affected. May you all find strength in our shared faith, trusting in God’s infinite mercy and love.
May the souls of the faithful departed rest in eternal peace. For those who die in Christ, we pray that death is not the end; they are sleeping until the Lord comes again.
May the spirit of Christmas bring healing and peace, and the light of Christ shine ever more brightly in this vale of tears.
With my deepest sympathy
Yours very sincerely
HE Cardinal Vincent Nichols

Dear Cardinal Vincent,
thank you so much for taking the time to express your sympathy and offer your condolences.
Following Mannheim in May and Solingen in August the attack on the Christmas Market in Magdeburg has been the third of its kind in Germany this year.
Germans at home and abroad share the pain and sadness by all directly affected, who simply gathered to joyfully celebrate with each other on these occassions.
While state authorities need to work hard to keep our communities safe, we all need to safeguard our hearts, that in a Christian spirit love prevails and will overcome all anger and hate, which might rise after such incidents. May the birth of Christ, which we will be celebrating later today, take place within all of us and fill our hearts with everlasting peace.
On behalf of everyone at St. Bonifatius I`d like to say, that we really appreciate your thoughts and prayers in this hour.
Your´s sincerely
Fr Andreas
